Richard E. Carlson, M.D.

Dr. Carlson received his undergraduate and medical training at Loyola University in Chicago, graduating magna cum laude. He completed his internship and residency training in ophthalmology at the Naval Hospital in Bethesda, MD. He holds a Masters degree in Safety from the University of Southern California. His sub specialty interest is in Aviation Medicine, and he is both a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and an Associate Fellow of the Aerospace Medical Association.

He has served the ophthalmic needs of our community for some 40 years. He is a retired Naval Medical Officer and Flight Surgeon. He is a Senior Medical Examiner for the Federal Aviation Administration, for whom he regularly teaches seminars and serves as consultant in ophthalmology for the Federal Air Surgeon. He is an Associate Professor on the Adjunct Faculty of Embry Riddle Aeronautical University where he teaches Aviation Safety, Human Factors, Physiology and Physics.
